Mott’s Channel Sprint starts at the Blockade Runner Resort, located on Wrightsville Beach, and finishes across the intracoastal at the Dockside Restaurant on Airlie Road. The course is approximately 1.3 miles long and is a point to point swim. The race will start at a high tide (based off of the Masonboro Inlet tide chart) to try and ensure a slight incoming to slack tide throughout the 1.3 mile swim. At the start swimmers will cross Banks Channel and enter Mott’s Channel (that stretch is about .25 mile) where they will swim past/around South Harbor Island, past Seapath Towers (about .55 mile), past Atlantic Marine, past Marine Max, cross over the ICW, and finally finishing at the Dockside Restaurant (about .55 miles). This is a great swim that starts with a straight path across Bank’s Channel into Mott’s Channel where you’ll want to stay about 15-20ft off the docks and pilings; take a slight right along South Harbor Island; cut across the channel to the marsh where again you’ll want to stay about 10-15ft off the docks and pilings; follow the marsh through the channel until you see Dockside in your view and then cut straight to the finish.
Secret swims in Costa Brava
This season our technical team offers all open water lovers the possibility to indulge in a different type of training in the most spectacular spots off the beaten track of the Catalan coast.
Secret Swims are born out of this philosophy. “Secret” in this context means that, on the one hand, training takes place in uncrowded and secluded spots, and, on the other hand, the swimming location is not disclosed to the participants until the very same day of the activity.
These sessions are designed for swimmers who not only enjoy every single stroke but also delight in the beauty of the surroundings. Thus, on the day of the training we will make several stops to take pictures and have a snack in spots accessible only through swimming.

SWIMTHEISLAND is the ultimate open water swimming event taking place in the fascinating Marine Protected Area of Bergeggi, in the north-west coast of Italy.
The race course takes place in an absolute spectacular natural setting, offering swimmers the vision of one of the most extraordinary seabed of the Mediterranean sea.
Swim The Loop starts and finishes at the Dockside Restaurant, which is located on Airlie Road
(Wilmington side of the Intracoastal Waterway). The race will start at a high tide to ensure an even tide
pattern throughout the 3.5 mile swim. Don’t be fooled though; there will be times of slight incoming
tide, slight falling tide and a mostly slack tide. Swimmers will paddle their way around the island
clockwise going under the drawbridge and turning right into Lee’s Cut. There are some shallower waters
through this cut, so keep about 10-15 ft. off the marsh/docks and you won’t hit bottom. Lee’s Cut can
be a tougher section to complete, so be conservative and confident through the first mile of the swim.
Once through Lee’s Cut the swimmer will turn right into Banks Channel and go under the W. Salisbury St.
Bridge completing about 1.5 miles of the course. Once you reach the second bridge you’ve completed
2 miles and will soon turn right into Motts Channel. Make sure you site through Mott’s Channel and
stay about 10-15 ft. off the marsh because as the tide begins to change and fall this part could be a
challenging portion of the swim depending on the time you begin this portion of the swim. Mile 3 is just
past the Seapath Towers/Marina and will leave you with half a mile from the finish.
Swim The Costa Brava aims at becoming the meeting point for all the open water swimmers at national as well as international level.
We understand that certain trends have changed and so have the concerns of thousands of followers and sportsmen enthusiasts of open water swimming. The first stage (Swim the Costa Brava) within the European Open Water Swimming Championship is born precisely out of the desire to address these changes and to honour this sports disicpline.
