Join us for the 7th annual Clean Half swim, around some amazing cliffs, islands and scenery in Hong Kong. Warm water, great people, and an incredible city. This is a 5-person relay race, or, solo event. Organizer will arrange support boats for those who need them. This is ranked as Asia's top ocean swim.
In search of a unique open water swim challenge in Arizona, the four reservoirs on the Salt River provide that unique opportunity. If Jack Kerouac wrote a story about the Dharma Bums swimming from dam to dam across a series of lakes in the rugged desert wild, this may have been the inspiration. The brainchild of Mesa, Arizona attorney Kent Nicholas, S.C.A.R. stands for Saguaro, Canyon, Apache and Roosevelt lakes. It's "a bit of a rogue swim" because there were no permits, licenses, insurance, coast guard support, law enforcement approval, or any other "permission" sought from anyone. They hiked, boated, swam, laughed and swam again without letting the obstacles and hurdles of modern life prevent them from swimming more than 40 miles in a beautiful environment.
Next test date: July 13, 2013
The second longest swim race in the country, but based on finishing times, this might be the hardest. Challenge the Red River of the North as it winds its way between North Dakota and Minnesota and swim the 27 mile course from Grand Forks to Oslo. Swimmers can compete solo or as members of a relay team. The entry fee for solo swimmers is only $250 and includes a support kayaker - making it not only one of the toughest and longest events available, but also one of the most affordable. 12 swimmers tested themselves in the inaugural offering in 2012, including Oceans Seven swimmer Darren Miller and Open Water Swimming Performance of the Year nominee, Daniel Projansky (who swam the entire distance butterfly!)
2013 race will be capped at 30 solo swimmers and 10 relay teams! Registration opens on the first of the year at endracing.com.
The 2nd annual Cold Half is an incredible training opportunity for those wanting some good mileage in good conditions (meaning potentially tough), amazing scenery, and a great group of motivated do-ers. This is for solos and teams of 2 only (30min legs). This year, we are also creating the new "Cold Standard" race, which includes doing the Cold Half solo, and the next day, running in the Standard Chartered Marathon (full length). We can help get entries to the always-sold-out Standard Chartered Marathon if you let us know by September 15th, 2013. This is going to be a big race-double for those who are thriving on adrenaline.
