This is the 4th running of the event, with one having been cancelled in 2015 due to very bad weather. This year it is approx. 12 km with the tide along the North Shore Bays of Auckland city.

It is run on the Waitemata Harbour, where the America’s Cup racing is held when New Zealand defend the cup. Each year is a different course to suit the tidal flows, this year it is a one way from and to one of Auckland’s beautiful beaches, with the finish line a simple short ferry ride to Downtown Auckland.

Each swimmer is supported by a kayaker for feeding and support. Overseas visitors can contact the organiser to arrange kayak support, some form of reward is helpful. The event is designed as a personal challenge rather than a race, however there is a cup presented to first Female and Male in both Non-Wetsuit and Wetsuit categories.
