The Melbourne Swim Classic is a participation-based, community-fundraising, sporting event, specifically a swimming event held on St Kilda Beach. The Melbourne Swim Classic is a fund raising vehicle for over 550 Victorian charities through the Everyday Hero network. Through the Everyday Hero fundraising initiative we hope to raise over $100,000, baring in mind if 5000 competitors each commit to raising just $100 that is $500,000 raised for local not for profit organisations. In addition to our fundraising efforts we hope to provide a safe, fun and rewarding experience for families to participate in our swimming carnival. The Melbourne Swim Classic will be held on St Kilda Beach on Saturday 1st March 2014. There are events for the whole family including a 1200 Metre Ocean Swim and a 400 Metre Swim both for anyone aged over 12 and a specific event for kids under 12 in the form of Kids Costume Beach Flags which is a running sprint. Admissions are priced on a progressive scale (cheaper the earlier you purchase) starting at $50 for the 1200 Metre Ocean Swim, $20 for the 400 Metre Swim and $5 for the Kids Beach Flags.
In a broader sense, swimming is the quintessential Australian sport, aided and abetted by our nation’s coastal waters, magnificent beaches and temperate climate. Swimming enjoys broad demographical participation and high visibility across our domestic media platforms. Swimming is quite literally the sport for everybody, whether you are young or old, male or female, Olympic level athlete or general fitness aspirant, swimming has something for everyone. Parochial Victorians love their sport and the Melbourne Swim Classic adds to an existing rich and immersive sporting culture. So get on board and get involved; the Melbourne Swim Classic – Get in and Get wet!
