This 1500 meter swim across the Tred Avon River from Bellevue Park to the beach at the Tred Avon Yacht Club in Oxford coincides with slack tide to allow everyone to make the crossing. The swim course follows the route of the historic Oxford-Bellevue Ferry, which started operations in 1683--over 300 years ago! Water temperatures usually range from the high-60s to mid-70's and the swim will be ahead of the dreaded nettles season. This region, steeped in history, is also the site of the novel "Chesapeake" by James A. Michener. Post event festivities include the famous Scottish Highland Creamery ice cream which was born in Oxford. This event is part of the Sharkfest Swim Series which hosts open water swim events across the United States and in Mexico.
